Unmanned balloon activities at high altitude are defined as “unmanned free balloons”. To register your weather balloon / unmanned free balloon Denmark, your project must be registered with Trafikstyrelsen (Danish Transport Authority). The rules for this are contained in the standardized European Aviation Regulation (EU) No. 923/2012, which is maintained under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, also known as SERA Vo, and applied in the national air law of Denmark. It sounds complicated at first, but it’s not! First, you should contact Trafikstyrelsen and have them send you the application form. In the form you have to fill in some information about the starting place, starting period and some information about the equipment. Note: Allow sufficient time for the application, as there may be queries, especially with the first application. Often there are also deadlines that the application must be received by the authority two to three weeks before the start period.
